The Cohort: Opportunity Framing Practitioner
Opportunity Framing Practitioner: a live cohort that starts Wed 18 Nov
Every gate process assumes the right problem was framed before Gate 1. None of them teach you how. This program does.
Most project training teaches you how to run a project once it exists. This program teaches you how to shape it before it does. You'll learn to work out what a project is really for, before anyone signs off on the money.
What is it?
A live, small-group program. You meet with me and up to 11 other professionals for nine Wednesday sessions, called labs. In each lab, you work on a real project of your own, step by step, using PATH, our four-step way to frame a project:
Prepare: get the right people ready for the right conversation
Analyze: understand the situation, the value and the limits
Target: agree what success looks like and compare your options
Handle: bring people on board and plan the next steps
Who is it for?
People who are in the room before a project is fully defined:
You deliver projects. You're a project manager or on a project development team, and you're tired of defending a brief nobody really agreed on.
You own projects. You're a sponsor, or you work in a PMO or lead change, and you want better projects coming to each approval meeting.
You advise on projects. You're a consultant or facilitator, and you want a clear framing process you can run with your clients.
What will you leave with?
A finished frame for your own project. That means a clear statement of the opportunity, what makes it worth doing, what's in and out, how you'll measure success, and your best options, scored side by side.
A roadmap to the next gate: what happens next, when, and who does it.
A workshop you can run yourself, with an agenda and a script you've already practiced with the group.
The PATH workbook, with all 16 tools, templates and worked examples, yours to keep.
A certificate, after you present your work to the group at the final session.
New friends who do this work for real, in your cohort and in the community.
How does it work?
Nine live labs on Wednesdays, 8:00 to 10:00 am Houston time. That's 2:00 to 4:00 pm in London and 10:00 pm to midnight in Perth.
Before each lab, you watch two or three short video lessons.
About 3 hours a week in total.
Every lab is recorded, so you can catch up if you miss one. Your feedback happens live, though, so try to join.
Your own private cohort area here in the community, with your lessons, recordings and a discussion space just for your group.
The nine labs:
Wed 18 Nov: Prepare: set up the conversation
Wed 3 Feb: Final showcase: present your work
No lab on 25 Nov (Thanksgiving week). Holiday break from 17 Dec to 5 Jan.
Good to know
Only 12 places, so everyone gets real feedback.
Enrollment closes Saturday 14 November.
Your employer can pay. We can send an invoice or work with a purchase order. If you need help asking, message me and I'll send you a short email you can forward to your manager.
No risk: come to the first lab. If it isn't right for you, tell me and I'll refund you in full.
